Oh Happy Day!

Anybody out there want to learn how to free-motion quilt?  Anyone interested in knowing how to actually manuever fabric through your machine to make beautiful, lush designs?  Oh Happy Day!……Literally. I’ve fallen in love with Leah Day and her Daystyledesigns.  This young woman has given me all the tools (except more time) to become a good free-motion quilter. Her designs are out of the ordinary, and each one comes with a detailed video that shows you exactly how to get amazing results.

Her site is great because she gives you multiple ways to find the perfect quilting motif  for your project. You can choose by difficulty level, by the chronological order that she brought designs out, or by the type of filler design you want. Me, I started with the Difficulty level, chose “Beginner,” “http://www.daystyledesigns.com/365difficultymain.htm and started with the Shadow Wave design. I’m no Leah Day yet, but I did get better after I practiced a few squares.

You can get do free-motion quilting with a tabletop, domestic sewing machine.  Leah uses a Janome Horizon 7700, the same machine as I use. If you’d like to get a demonstration of this amazing machine, come into Threads of Time Creative Sewing and Retreat Center in Danville, Illinois, or go to the website at www.threadsoftimefab.com. A great machine for quilting, but it’s also a fantastic machine for all kinds of sewing due to its beautiful overcasting stitches, it’s long free-arm, the vast array of decorative stitches and built-in buttonholes.
